Introducing New Trap Management Sales Tools and Resources

During the webinar, Dave and Philippe strategically moved through Armstrong's brand new step-by-step guide The Next Level of Trap Management that has been specifically created for our Representatives. Within the coming weeks, our team will ship individual handbooks to all North American Reps. Meanwhile, take a look at the digital version by clicking here

In addition, we're also pleased to share the Steam Trap Management Services brochure. We encourage you to share this sales asset with your customers as you introduce trap management programs. Phillips 66 Launches SAGE UMT® Program and Receives EPA Award

The Phillips 66 refinery in northeast New Jersey has used Armstrong steam products exclusively for over a decade, including standardization on the Armstrong 2011 trap/TVS4000 for low pressure drip and tracer applications. This large refining/petrochemical complex achieved best in class steam trap failure performance by outsourcing an annual survey followed by trap repairs done by unit operators with maintenance personnel support for high pressure and process applications.

Despite the success of the annual program (see below graph of steam trap failure rate) in 2019, their refinery process and energy leadership team felt there was more that could be done to capture the nearly one million dollars of annual energy losses that remain. About this same time, the Armstrong coverage team of Martin Muller (Valley Technical Sales) and Mike Calogero presented the fully integrated, digitally connected SAGE UMT® system as way to improve the steam trap repair program. The refinery energy team recognized the benefits of improved communication through the organization and felt this program would drive greater operator engagement and ownership for the site’s 10,000-plus steam traps.

In 2020, the complex jumped in with both feet, purchasing over a dozen UMTs and fitting the site with several thousand RFID tags. Backed by training and field support from Martin, the program took off in a positive direction. As a result, the refinery process and energy teams were asked to present the program (including a demonstration of TVS operation) to the Phillips 66 corporate head of refinery operations. Their efforts were recognized by the EPA with an Energy Star Award.

Conduct Thermal Assessments And Win An iPad

We had a great response to last year’s Thermal Assessment incentive program, so we are excited to announce its continuation! Thermal Assessments are a great way to uncover opportunities to improve the performance and efficiency of steam, hot water, and condensate systems as well as the safety, reliability, and integrity of the customer’s overall system. Conducting a Thermal Assessment is easy too – especially when using the Thermal Assessment application within SAGE. View the SAGE app tutorial and refer to these example mock assessments that represent a cross section of vertical markets.

As an added incentive, Armstrong will give a new Apple iPad to the representative that generates the most Thermal Assessments between now and June 15, 2022. Please submit your assessments to Nevena Iordanova by June 15th and we’ll notify the winner via email as the reports are tallied.

CD-40 And CD-60 Series Disc Steam Traps To Be Retired

Armstrong will retire the CD-40 and CD-60 series disc steam traps beginning April 30th. Repair parts will continue to be available for two years. The CD-72SR is a steam trap that we’ve been offering that will serve as the replacement for the CD-40/60 models. It covers the maximum allowable pressures and maximum operating pressures of the CD-40/60 Series traps. The CD-72SR is also less expensive.

Nemours Children’s Hospital Signs Four-Year Everactive Service Contract

A four-year Everactive service contract has been secured with Nemours Children’s Hospital in Wilmington, DE. Their total steam trap population – 476 steam traps – will be monitored by Everactive. The deal was negotiated and closed by Associated Steam with a lump sum payment for the four-year term rather than a subscription. A trap survey is underway. The installation will take approximately six days with a four-person crew and will begin approximately three weeks after the survey is completed. Please contact Philippe Moock if you have any questions.
