Rethinking Steam in Food Manufacturing


Desteaming — the practice of replacing steam with right-sized thermal solution like hot water — is gaining traction in food manufacturing as a way to improve efficiency, reduce operating costs, and lower emissions.

In this article from “Food Engineering,” the authors explain how traditional steam systems can lose significant energy outside the boiler room while direct hot water systems deliver heat more efficiently by eliminating conversion losses.

The article also highlights key considerations such as system design, temperature control, safety, and compliance, emphasizing that while steam still has a role, targeted desteaming — especially for sanitation and washdown — can improve performance, reliability, and overall plant productivity.

Reminder — SAGE UMT® Service & Warranty Policy

This is a reminder that the SAGE UMT® device cannot be repaired or serviced in the field. To ensure proper operation and maintain warranty coverage, the device should not be opened, modified, or repaired in the field.

If a SAGE UMT® does not function properly or becomes damaged, discontinue use immediately and follow the established service process. Any attempt to repair or modify the device outside of Armstrong will void the warranty.

Insu-Pak Notice of Discontinuation

Armstrong is formally announcing that the Insu-Pak is obsolete and will no longer be offered. Due to material availability constraints, we are unable to continue manufacturing this part. We evaluated multiple alternatives but did not identify a suitable substitute or replacement. There are no plans to introduce a replacement at this time.

AHU at Capacity? No Problem!

With today’s increased outdoor air requirements, many existing Air Handling Units (AHUs) lack the heating or cooling capacity to handle the added load. No problem! The Armstrong Heat Transfer Group can design and build custom add-on Fresh Air Makeup units to deliver filtered air — hot or cold.

This custom-built unit features a rain hood, bird screen, prefilters, chilled water cooling coils, and second-stage filtration after the coils. It’s custom-designed to integrate with the inlet of existing AHUs, adding the cooling capacity and filtration needed to meet today’s standards.

Upcoming Data Center Campaign


Armstrong is seeing strong traction in the data center market, with recent orders for thousands of air vents and over 100 VERIS Accelabar® flow meters supporting liquid-cooled systems. These solutions are helping improve system performance, simplify installation, and maintain efficiency in glycol-based cooling loops, an increasingly common approach in modern data centers.

To support continued growth, a targeted marketing and enablement campaign is underway, including social, email, and updated web content focused on data center applications. In addition to air vents, Accelabar® meters, and WARE rental boiler solutions, upcoming campaign efforts will also highlight humidification and waste heat recovery.

Armstrong and WARE will be active at key industry events, including the Data Center Design, Engineering & Construction Trade Show (May 27–28, Ashburn, Virginia) and the Data Center Design, Construction & Engineering Forum (June 15–16, Las Vegas, Nevada). The event will also feature a talk given by Combitherm’s Vivien Klein about waste heat recovery.

From Fundamentals to Field Confidence: Humidification Representative Training School


Armstrong will host a Humidification Representative Training School at its North American Learning Center in Three Rivers on October 6–7, 2026.

The two-day program (beginning at 8 a.m. on Tuesday and concluding at 5 p.m. on Wednesday) offers a deep dive into Armstrong’s commercial and industrial humidification solutions. Attendees will build product expertise across the full portfolio, learn system design and application best practices, and gain practical insights into installation, operation, and water treatment considerations.

The training also covers sales strategies, key vertical markets, and competitive positioning, supported by live demonstrations, group discussions, and real-world case examples. Participants will leave equipped to confidently specify, sell, and support Armstrong humidification systems.

VERIS Order Submission Update

As part of the transition of the VERIS Flow Meter business to Armstrong’s Three Rivers, Michigan, campus, all orders must now be submitted directly to Armstrong.

Effective May 18, 2026, please send all VERIS Flow Meter orders to veris-sales@armstronginternational.com or mail them to the Three Rivers address. Orders should no longer be sent to Colorado.
