STEAM, AIR, AND HOT WATER EDITION

VHA Relies On Armstrong To Ensure Patient And Staff Safety

The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) is the largest integrated health care system in the United States, providing care to more than 9 million veterans across 1,298 health care facilities. VA Directive 1061 calls for the prevention of healthcare associated Legionella disease and scald injury from water systems and Armstrong technology solutions meet this standard of care.

The full-service VA Medical Centers have long been Armstrong customers with a huge installed base of Flo-Rite Temp, Digital-Flo and The Brain. The application of VA 1061 and the VA commitment to the execution of their comprehensive Water Safety Management Plans (WMP) makes them a primary target customer for the Rada Digital Faucet, and we are developing significant traction across the network.

Our most recent installation success is at the VA Marion Health Care System and its 55 acute care bed and 60 bed community living center located in Marion, Illinois. Through the tireless effort of Rick LaRose from Armstrong and Mike Todd from Mead O’Brien, we now have 203 Rada Digital Faucets and multiple DRVs (The Brain) in operation!

After several months of operation, the hospital reports great results in mitigating waterborne pathogens as well as better reliability in their hot water loop, resulting in a healthier hot water system in total. Doctors, nurses and other staff are enjoying the added surface infection spread risk protection as the Armstrong Rada Digital Faucet is the only totally hands-free faucet available with advanced infection control design. Look for the full case study coming soon!

Healthcare Innovation Exchange Gets High Marks

Last month Armstrong partnered with ADCO Co. to host the first ever Healthcare Exchange Summit. The goal was to provide an open forum to exchange ideas, showcase technologies and highlight best practices among the best and brightest minds that oversee the design, application, management and optimization of steam, air and hot water solutions for healthcare. The event was held in Huntsville and Birmingham, Alabama and drew 41 participants from many of the surrounding healthcare facilities. Attendees gave the event high marks for addressing important and relevant topics that are on the minds of healthcare facilities specialists. Thanks to our partners at ADCO and our subject matter experts at Armstrong for hosting and facilitating this worthwhile event.

Food For Thought: Have Your Cake And Eat It Too!

Bimbo Bakery is the largest commercial baking company in the US. They bake well-known brands including Sara Lee, Entenmann’s, Brownberry, Thomas’ and more. Bimbo had a problem of how to handle both process and domestic water heating. Here’s the scoop.

The Application: Providing a hot water system for both the process and domestic side of the building. Water needed to be generated at a safe temperature for use at sinks and showers while also using the hot water for existing hose stations and other CIP services.

The Problem: Bimbo had two existing water heaters. One for process and one for domestic service. The process heat exchanger began leaking and it was only a matter of time before the domestic heat exchanger would begin leaking, so they needed to find a suitable solution.

The Solution: The customer decided to go with ABH when they heard that Armstrong could provide a single footprint hot water generation and temperature control solution that could simultaneously handle both applications. They were prepared to purchase two separate heaters but were thrilled to learn that a single heater solution (ABH) pre-piped and performance matched with The Brain, Armstrong’s ground breaking digital recirculating valve would satisfy their demands. The ABH enabled the customer to deliver appropriate water temperature for multiples uses within the facility.

Congratulations to Michael Patterson of Hatfield and Company for solving the problem with three (3) ABH-599’s! Bimbo customers can now have their cake and eat it too!

Welcome to the Team

Please join us in welcoming Jay Pyne as the new Product Manager for the Armstrong Pressure/Temperature Group. Jay’s background includes working with various brands of valves beginning with Valtek/Flowserve as an application engineer. He then moved into Outside Sales with CCI, Inc (Control Components, Inc). Just prior to joining Armstrong, Jay was the control valve planner at Caltrol (a business partner for Emerson) where he assessed control issues and developed plans for different facilities and then engaged crews for on-site work.

We view the control valve line as an area with high potential for growth and Jay’s experience makes him a great addition to the team. He will work with David Dykehouse on all these opportunities. Jay will be working remotely from his home office in Tennessee. He is eager to get out and talk to all of you to see where he can help grow the pressure temperature control business. Jay can be reached at: jpyne@armstronginternational.com and (714) 454-3990.
