STEAM, AIR, AND HOT WATER EDITION

Leadership In Times Of Crisis

Brian Tracy, well-known speaker, author and coach on leadership says that the true test of leadership is how well you function in a crisis. We couldn’t agree more.

Thank you for demonstrating leadership during this crisis. Our first priority is to help ensure the health and safety of our employees and you – our valued representatives. As we announced on March 17th, we restricted travel of Armstrong employees and made arrangements to work remotely to continue to serve your needs and those of your customers. We prioritized deliveries to healthcare customers as well as put in place mitigation and contingency plans to help ensure that we conduct business safely, efficiently and with minimal disruption.

In addition, we have been proactive in our communication with end-users in North America. Below are links to various phases of email communications that have been sent thus far to our vertical market end-users.

We‘ll soon be communicating with Education and Hospitality end-users as well as continuing phase 3 communications with Food & Beverage end-users. We will continue to inform you of these ongoing communications as they occur.

While the true impact of this pandemic may not be known for many months to come, we remain steadfast in our core values of faith in God, family and job (in that order). Thank you for your patience, hard work and commitment to realize our vision of creating an enjoyable experience for every customer, partner and employee.

Armstrong Heat Transfer Group Stands Ready To Serve

Though the requirements are evolving as conditions continue to change, the COVID-19 pandemic has reshaped how we live and do business. As of March 25, 2020, and until April 13, 2020, the Government of Québec ordered the minimization of all non-priority services and activities. However, all businesses producing products or materials necessary for priority services and activities, must maintain these activities, accordingly, bearing in mind the directives from public health authorities. As such, the Armstrong Heat Transfer Group continues our operations and support of both Canada’s Priority Services and the US Critical Infrastructure Industry.

Our first priority is to help maintain the good health of all our employees and their families. We continue our best practices of social distancing, cleaning, hygiene, etc. Our production is fully functional with normal lead times and no freight delays at the US border. We are here to assist you and our customers with their heat transfer product needs. Please call 450-378-2655 or email our Application and Sales team. We’re happy to host video conferences or conference calls to support with applications, projects and troubleshooting.

As you work remotely, the Coil Capabilities 240-EN “picture book” is a great tool to share and start a conversation with your essential services customers on their heat transfer needs. Download a copy and include a link to it in your customer emails.

Keep Humidity And Air Quality In Check

During this challenging time, the Armstrong Healthcare team wants to remind everyone of the impact of humidity and air quality on healthcare associated infections.

Many of you are aware of the sterling chart (shown below), which recommends a humidity level between 30-55% RH for an optimum healthy environment. Recent research supports this range and most recently, 40% is being called out as the recommended humidity level for indoor air quality.

Dr. Stephanie Taylor, a noted authority on infection control, cited the following: “The one factor most associated with infection was (drum roll): dry air. At low relative humidity, indoor air was strongly associated with higher infection rates.”

According to Taylor, “When we dry the air out, droplets and skin flakes carrying viruses and bacteria are launched into the air, traveling far and over long periods of time. The microbes that survive this launching tend to be the ones that cause healthcare-associated infections. Even worse, in addition to this increased exposure to infectious particles, the dry air also harms our natural immune barriers which protect us from infections." “Managing Your Hospital Building Can Save Patient Lives”

Armstrong has also supported a study by Damon Greeley. His organization, On Site LLC, has conducted several studies that include theories on the effect of various humidity levels on air quality and movement.

Now is a good time to open a discussion with your engineers and facility managers to get some real life input on how your facilities and design teams may view this.

What’s Wrong With This Photo?

Would you like a chance to win an Armstrong golf shirt? Then let’s play “What’s Wrong With This Photo”!

We all know The Brain® is the best digital mixing valve in the world – when it is installed correctly. But when not installed correctly, the ensuing troubleshooting and resolution can be painful, time-consuming, costly and not enjoyable for everyone involved. A little pro-active engagement on installation and commissioning takes less time and you’re rewarded with a much higher return on investment and an enjoyable experience.

Take the time to assess this installation and submit your answer(s). If you see more than one issue, bullet-point your observations in an email to Dan Tomlinson. Each correct observation will earn you a ticket in a drawing for a free Armstrong golf shirt! Look for the formal assessment of this installation in the next issue of perform and another chance to play.
