STEAM, AIR, AND HOT WATER EDITION

VA Hospital Water Heater Specifications Updated

You may be aware that the Veterans Administration national specifications for steam water heaters was written around “Semi Instantaneous” water heaters with helical wound coils only. That has now changed. Armstrong worked with the VA to make significant modifications to the specs to include other styles of water heaters including instantaneous, straight tube with water in tubes or shell. The specifications were uploaded in December to the VA’s national specification data base under “plumbing”. Please refer to this summary of changes document and the Domestic Water Heat Exchanger Spec 22-35-00.

You can now utilize this spec to develop an Armstrong solution on your projects. We’ve had tremendous success selling our water heaters at the local level thanks to your efforts and the ability of local facilities to use the VA’s “reoccurring maintenance” standard, that gives the local facility and their engineer’s the authority to design projects up to $5.0 million. However, some facilities have decided to utilize the national spec and we had difficulty meeting it or even quoting the job. This change now overcomes that challenge and we look forward to building on the success that we’ve had. Over 30% of the VA’s already have Armstrong’s Digital technology installed. Let’s use this new spec to capture even more of this active market! Please contact Scott Jacobson if you have any questions or need additional support.

Price Reduction And Price Book Updates

A recent change in material costs has enabled us to reduce pricing on Direct Acting Pressure Reducing Valves Model GD-10, GD-10F and AF-10 repair parts. In addition to the price reduction, we have also made several updates and corrections to the price book including:

  • Addition of stainless steel description to the Python® 1500 pages
  • Update to correct missing prices for Cast Carbon Steel Strainers (see pages 43 and 44)
  • Price corrections for Cast Iron Receiver Electronic Pump Packages AFH-4226-GDA and AFH-4228-GDA (see page 82)
  • Correction of the Connection type for Model GP-1000/1000SS/GP/GP-1000AS for Steam Service (see page 106)

What’s Wrong With This Photo?

When commissioning The Brain®, it’s very important to ensure the valve has been piped in correctly. Ideally, you will catch piping issues ahead of the start-up so it can be sorted out in a timely manner while the contractor is on site. Unfortunately, it happens far more often than we like to see where an installer pays no attention to the IOM and instead, installs the valve the way they think it should be installed.

Getting a phone call from a customer in a panic because The Brain® is not working only to find out that a representative didn’t commission the valve in person and the valve was installed wrong, gives us all a black eye. THIS SHOULDN’T HAPPEN. During a recent start-up at a hospital, this picture illistrates what our Representative found. Can you identify what is wrong with the installation in this photo? The first person to reply back to Tim Jones correctly identifying the issue will receive an Armstrong golf shirt.
