Armstrong Industrial Rep Training School Returns This Fall

Armstrong is moving forward with plans to host two Industrial Market Representative Training Schools this fall. The first will be September 21-25 and the second will be held October 5-9. We recommend this school for salespeople who have been with your organization for a minimum of 6 months and are actively engaged in Armstrong University online training to enhance their experience in the Industrial Training School.

Your safety is our top priority and both schools will follow COVID-19 guidelines and protocols. Attendance will be limited to 12 people per school and the following practices will be implemented:
  • Rep attendees and Armstrong presenters must arrive in healthy condition
  • Temperatures will be taken each day as rep attendees and presenters arrive
  • Masks must be worn at all times while inside Armstrong facilities (Masks will be provided by Armstrong if you do not have one)
  • One person per Learning Center training room table properly social distanced from others
  • Each table will have hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes for attendees use
  • Learning Center training room will be sanitized each night
  • Armstrong presenters will wear face shield and will work from a sanitized mobile mic
  • Meals will be held on site with professional catering and proper distancing will be exercised while dining
  • Dining facilities will be sanitized after each use
  • Armstrong will work with the hotel to ensure rooms are properly cleaned and sanitized
  • We encourage all attendees to take appropriate precautions to protect themselves while traveling and during their stay in Three Rivers
View the draft agenda and contact Lori Masnari to register. Please specify your first and second choice of the school dates that you would like to attend, and we’ll do our best to accommodate your selection. We also recommend buying a refundable airline ticket in the event that Covid19 forces us to postpone the school. The Armstrong team looks forward to sharing product, sales and market knowledge to help you grow sales in the industrial market.

Helpful Tips About Continuing Education Credits

Armstrong, through a relationship with a local college, offers CEUs (Continuing Education Units) for monthly Armstrong University seminars hosted in our North American Learning Center in Three Rivers. CEU values are expressed in tenths and (0.1) CEUs is based upon 60 minutes of instruction. One CEU is defined as 10 contact hours in an organized continuing education activity. Our full two-day seminar is worth (1.6) CEUs. Our slightly shorter, Consulting Engineer Seminar hosted last year, was valued at (1.2) CEUs. Armstrong pays a fee for every customer requesting CEUs for their participation in our events.

One CEU is equivalent to (10) PDHs (Professional Development Hours). Many of our customers, in order to retain licenses or certifications, are required to earn a specific number of PDHs. As an example, a Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of Michigan or Illinois is required to earn (30) PDHs every two years. One monthly seminar in Three Rivers would be worth an equivalent of about half (16 of 30) of required PDHs for a PE in Michigan or Illinois. However, requirements vary with each state.

We also offer CEUs for Armstrong University online courses for a fee of $25. Many courses are 30 minutes long, so two distinct courses would have to be passed to qualify for (0.1) CEUs. A customer who passes an online course can print their own certificate – which will typically meet their needs for PDHs and also saves money by not asking Armstrong to submit their name for CEUs.

Armstrong is also able to offer CEUs for webinars for a fee of $25. However, we’ve found that offering a certificate of completion of the webinar has enabled customers to claim (1) PDH for a one hour webinar without incurring a fee. It’s not practical for Armstrong to track the requirements of each state, we simply offer CEUs and encourage customers to stay informed about the requirements for their state. Please contact Lori Masnari for a certificate for customers that participate in our webinars.

Food For Thought: Is Your Trunk Ready For The Low-Hanging Fruit?

What’s in the trunk of your car? That’s a personal question with a business purpose. Underneath the literature, steel-toed boots, safety glasses, hard hat, ear plugs, flashlight, spare tire and first-aid kit, are you carrying a solution to a common low-hanging fruit problem found in most food & beverage facilities?

Think back to your training on heat transfer and the insulating effects of air. Entrapped air in a shell and tube heat exchanger or steam coil can lead to inefficiencies that could hamper production or the performance of the heat exchange equipment itself. Think about how often each of your food & beverage customers have only a vacuum breaker on the shell and no air vent on the coil. That sound you hear is opportunity knocking.

Some of you carry parts with you on sales calls, why not add TAVB’s to your trunk’s inventory? They solve a heat transfer issue. You can sell them for $460 to $500 (or more) and often, there are multiple opportunities at each customer. Give low-hanging fruit a try – it can be pretty sweet.

What’s Wrong With This Photo?

Thanks for participating in the “What’s Wrong With This Photo” contest. Would you like a chance to win an Armstrong golf shirt like Bruce Mononghoff and Michael Heitert have been seen in as they’ve socially distanced? Great! We’re going to switch it up this time. Instead of featuring a post-installation review, let’s take a pro-active look at an actual plumbing schematic that features The Brain® Digital Recirculation Valve.

We all know The Brain® is the best digital mixing valve in the world – when it is piped correctly. Look closely at this schematic. What significant talking point(s) does this present? What would you recommend to the plumbing engineer?

Take time to assess this and submit your answer(s). If you see more than one talking point, bullet-point your observations and recommendations in an email to Dan Tomlinson. Each correct observation will earn you a ticket in a drawing for the shirt. Be sure to join us next month for a formal assessment and the announcement of another lucky winner!

Built By Firemen For Firemen

When Armstrong received an order for the new Chicago Fire Station – Engine Company 115 for a new Digital Mixing Center, we knew the best team to build it. Tim Judsen, a retired fire chief, along with his son, Josh, who is the current fire chief of the Fabius-Park fire department and Dave Wagner, an active fireman for the city of Three Rivers, went to work. The new Armstrong Digital Mixing Center will play a critical role in the construction of a new $30 million state of the art fire station in West Pullman neighborhood of Chicago. Check out the custom paint job to match the station's traditional fire apparatus scheme of black over red! Special thanks to Mike Murray from Affiliated Steam, Hank Lenzen, Dan Tomlinson, Steve Gyllstrom and Will Grindall for their support on this unique collaboration.
